Linear Actuator

An actuator is a type of motor for moving or controlling a mechanism or system. It is operated by a source of energy, usually in the form of an electric current, hydraulic fluid pressure or pneumatic pressure, and converts that energy into some kind of motion. An actuator is the mechanism by which an agent acts upon an environment. The agent can be either an artificial intelligent agent or any other autonomous being (human, other animal, etc).

Actuators for valves can be classified up several characteristics. By the type of movement, by the energy source, by the functionality, and other characteristics. By the type of movement, there are 4 types of actuators: Multi-turn, Quarter-turn, Linear and Lever.

For example, a linear actuator is an actuator that creates linear motion (as opposed to rotary motion, e.g. of an electric motor). Linear actuators are popular in many fields such as medical equipment, furniture, consumer products, hobby design and any other products were automation is needed.

Linear actuators can be used in variety of applications. They can be used in automotive, marine, medical, industrial, furniture, hobby design applications and lot more.
